English writing has always been one hot concern in junior high school English teaching.English writing also plays an important role in EFL(English as a foreign language learning),and researchers found that if you wanted to let your English writing outstanding unless you mastered sufficient English vocabulary in the study of EFL.However,a great number of researchers focus on the result of second language vocabulary ability of writing,rarely look at vocabulary ability problem from production process,the second language writing process of students in junior high school to solve the problem of vocabulary and the writing ability are still blank.Therefore,the purpose of the present study is to explore the effect of vocabulary application strategies in English writing on six low-proficiency learners in Grade 9 who were from one junior high school of Guangzhou.This study lasted for nearly 4 months,aiming to solve these two research questions:(1)Can vocabulary application strategies help improve Grade 9 English learners' writing performance?(2)Which kinds of vocabulary application strategies are used frequently? During the study,a series of exercises and writing tasks were assigned for participants after the instruction of each vocabulary application strategy.what's more,the writing tasks were provided only essay titles,and the aim was to make the researcher better observe how the participants resolved lexical problems.For writing tests,namely monthly examination,each participant was asked to write one 80-90-word composition in 15 minutes to trace his or her writing performance according to the requirements of senior high school entrance examination in Guangzhou,and an interview after every test was also operated to examine participants' strategies use in writing and feelings towards vocabulary application strategies.According to the experimental results and the data collected,the researcher will find out whether vocabulary application strategies instruction can help low-proficiency participants' writing performance and how the participants employed four types of vocabulary application strategies(namely effortful-retrieval strategies,lexical–upgrading strategies,problem–avoiding strategies and online-editing strategies)through the instruments(questionnaires,writing tests and interviews).
