| The purpose of this project was to write a grant proposal to The Weingart Foundation to fund the development of a program for the expansion of youth prevention services at Children's Institute, Inc. Familial and community factors greatly impact the development of youth and their involvement in risky behavior. Traditionally, programs for youth have focused on specific risk factors that can have a detrimental effect on their development. In the last decade, research has demonstrated a paradigm shift in the development of prevention programs for youth. Within the new paradigm, programs have developed around promoting positive youth development instead of identifiable risk factors. The proposed program provides services to youth at-risk engaging in risky behavior. The proposed program's interventions are based on youth service models, which are described in the reviewed literature as effective. Submission for funding of this grant proposal was not required for the successful completion of this project. |
