Abstract/Summary:

This thesis explores the visual language and culture of pre-Columbian and colonial Michoacan. Through imagery of the Relacion de Michoacan and an artistic medium called pasta de cana de Maiz, the religious value of imagery of the P'urhepecha is explored.
