Katherine Anne Porter,one of the representatives of the writers in the southern United States in the 20 th century,was deeply influenced by her social environment,time and unique religious background and growth experience.Porter's work featured themes,images,structures and Thought and other aspects have a distinctive religious meaning.In Porter's novels,on the one hand,it was influenced by the notion of Christianity so that the hearts and minds of those wounded after the war were filled with disappointments and fears and resorted to the fear of giving human suffering to God.On the other hand,the development of modernism and social science had made Porter felt the emptiness that people can not get rid of under the religious belief and the real life style.Under the pretext of religion hypocrisy,devastating humanity "pseudo-Christians." With this dual conception,Porter is committed to seeking the true meaning of self-realization and self-worth in the real predicament and inner contradiction of dilemma.The article is indiveded to three parts.The first part is the introduction and the first chapter of the essay.It mainly discusses the domestic and international research on Porter and her growth experience,religious background and literary creation.At the present,foreign literature on the themes and art forms of Porter's novels is more abundant and the research is more thorough,but the number of research monographs and professional papers on Porter and its related works is less,the research angle is relatively limited,and the research results from the religious traditional perspective are less.So,there is still a lot of space.But in fact,Porter is a very profound writer who was deeply influenced by religion.It is of great significance to choose this angle to analyze her novels.It is also the purpose and innovation of this essay.In addition,this article also focuses on Porter's complex growth experience and literary creation under the dual religious environment of Protestantism and Catholicism.The second part is the second and third chapters of the essay.The second chapter focuses on the unique religious atmosphere shown in Porter's novels.These include the fear of death and violence in the context of people's lives,social unrest and the shakes of people's religious beliefs which were caused by the development of science and technology,and the alienation and perplexity of the people.The third chapter analyzes the ideological connotation of writers in their works through various religious atmosphere.In the soil of the south of the United States in the twentieth Century,there was a fierce conflict among the individual and the tradition,the outside world and someoneself.The awakening of self consciousness and the pursuit of self value were the problems that people began to think at that time.The last part is the fourth chapter of the article.Writers must start from the social and historical conditions and the writers' personal preferences and individuality when they write a novel.Therefore,on the basis of understanding Porter's religious complex and ideological connotation,this part analyses the individualized expression of the religious character in the creation of the novel art forms and the artistic charms of the details of the works.
