Abstract/Summary:
In 1979, just three years after the conclusion of the Cultural Revolution in China, renowned Uyghur author Zordun Sabir published "Dolan Youths," a short story set among the Dolan people of southern Xinjiang that repudiates the Cultural Revolution while celebrating local culture and traditions. The full story has been translated from Uyghur into English. This translation is supported by annotations and a glossary of foreign terms, and preceded by discussions of the author, Dolan culture, the contemporary political climate, and the story's composition, themes, popular reception, translations, and adaptations.
