Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to formulate a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant application to obtain funding for a theater arts intervention with clients at Homeboy Industries who are leaving gangs and reentering mainstream society after leaving incarceration. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to build knowledge about reentry and the challenges of leaving gangs, as well as the effectiveness of theater arts as an intervention with at-risk youth and young adults. An exploration of potential funding sources through the Internet resulted in identifying the S. Mark Taper Foundation as the best funding source for the project. A grant application was written to support a theater arts program at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, California. Actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not required for the successful completion of this project.
