A mentoring program to enhance motivation, educational expectations, and aspirations among African American adolescent males: A grant proposal project

Los Angeles County has the highest amount of dropouts among African American students than any other county in California and African American students are more likely to drop out of high school than any other racial/ethnic groups. The purpose of this thesis was to write a grant proposal to obtain funding to implement a mentoring program for 50 African American males who reside in the communities of South Los Angeles, Watts, and Compton. The anticipated outcome of this program is to reduce dropout rates and increase academic performance (grades) among African American males by providing them resources and mentors who will promote positive academic development. Submission and funding of this grant was not a requirement for this thesis project.
