Abstract/Summary:
Though my mother's challenges and suffering began with Radium, they certainly ended with alcohol. Ours is a story of a family so devastated by alcoholism, we barely knew it was the sea in which we were drowning. For those of whom I have written, none are left to tell their tale. From our clan, only my brother and sister remain. Whatever tenderness and humor was bestowed me by my family has found its way into this book. Though I remember each as talented as the next, their loving qualities were not sufficient to save them. Any yet there were moments of great joy and humor, the most profound of which were full of love.;There is an aphorism, well known to treatment professionals, about a man inflicted with the fire of alcoholism, who throws himself into an ocean of booze to extinguish the pain, but only manages to drown himself in the process.
