Abstract/Summary:
With postmodern and pluralistic shifts reshaping the cultural landscape, an antiquated evangelistic mode hampers the gospel movement through its insufficient skills and negative perceptions. This thesis-project is an attempt to recast the evangelism motif for the current era.;From a biblical basis, the thesis develops the "drawing paradigm" of Jesus, which sits in contrast to the traditional "telling paradigm," in how it begins from the non-believer's starting point. With this simple premise, the research method of participant observation served to reveal elements of the faith formation process. In this way, the project seeks to breakdown how to reach people for Christ who begin from various places.;Observations of personal evangelism experiences, evangelistic classes, new believers, faith-sharing training courses, and compassion ministries offered a range of contexts for study. The research also incorporated interviews with leaders from twenty churches, ten being mega-sized (2,000 members), as well as interactions with pastors and parishioners.;The thesis asserts that given the cultural positioning, a change from the traditional approach to the drawing approach will be more efficacious, and in many cases, necessary. The research culminates with a specific evangelistic skill-set developed in the book, Soul Whisperer, contained herein.
