Abstract/Summary:
The nursing field has been experiencing a shortage that has been publicized throughout the United States for more than a decade with an increase in acuity and, with a growing number of hospitalized patients, it is more important for new graduate nurses to be proficient. The purpose of this project was to provide assistance to nursing faculty/nursing students regarding the proper use of simulation laboratories and to increase effectiveness of student nurse preparation.;The surveyed perceptions of student nurses in this project ranged from 4.05 to 4.82 on a 5-point Liken type of scale. Student perception scores demonstrated significantly higher comfort and confidence ratings after the simulation experience. It is hoped that newly graduated nurses who participate in simulation laboratories will be more adequately prepared to begin their nursing careers. It is also hoped that new graduate nurses will be retained in the profession and perceive their experience positively.
