Abstract/Summary:
This report focuses on natural and artificial aging of materials used in protection against falls from height. This mainly involves the lifelines made from synthetic polymer materials, including a polyamide 6 (PA-6) and a polyester (PET).;Aging is a slow process that causes irreversible degradation of the material. The natural aging of the polymer is complicated that is controlled by several factors such as: solar radiations, temperature, aggressive agents or combinations of all these parameters. The accelerated laboratory aging can help to study one or more parameters according our needs.;This study focuses on the aging mechanisms of PA-6 and PET and changes of the properties of materials during the aging process. The characterization of physic-chemical can help to better understand the mechanism of aging and changing of material components. The results of mechanical tests may use to establish the requirements for resistance of aging of synthetic fiber lifelines.;Keywords: natural aging, accelerated aging, polyamide 6, polyethylene terephthalate, degradation.
