Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the current study was to examine whether music therapy facilitates improvement in communication skills in hospice and palliative care. This study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey design. Information on the effects of music therapy used among hospice patients was collected indirectly from a sample of 100 hospice staff of specific hospice agencies. The link to the survey on Qualtrics.com was sent by the hospice managers via email. Correlation analyses showed that as the years of awareness of music therapy as a helpful intervention increase, staff would witness more skills of improvement on communication in end-of-life care, r = .15, p < .012. Overall, this study provided support that music therapy has positive effects on communication in hospice and palliative care. Simultaneously, increasing the awareness of music therapy as a helpful complementary treatment in hospice and palliative care should be taken into account.
