his study analyzes the potential economic impacts from adopting Bt cotton in Mozambique more specifically, (1) the benefits to farmers, (2) the benefits to the society. In history of Mozambican agriculture, this study is the first attempt to evaluate the potential economic benefits from adopting Bt cotton, expected to provide insights for decision making related to Bt cotton in Mozambique and in other countries with smallholder production of cotton that are likely to consider the adoption of Bt cotton in Sub-Saharan Africa.;The study concludes that under current practices, specially regarding to lower insecticide applications, Bt cotton is not expected to generate additional income to farmer but it is expected to do so for the society. However, it can be attractive to farmers if its yield increases by 6%, about 40 Kg/ha over the actual conventional cotton yield level.
