Abstract/Summary:
Femtocells are new technology designed to solve communication problems with cell phones indoor. It is also called home base station. It is called this because it is exactly a small cellular base station. It works like cell towers. Apart from cell towers, it provides an internet for computers, too.;End user connects this device to internet lines. When it is connected, it searches for the mobile phone in the environment for appropriate operator. Femtocells use internet infrastructure to satisfy voice call with mobile phone. There are two ways to connect with the network service provider (NSP). One is 'Digital Subscriber Line' and the other is 'Cable'.;This type of connection brings challenges of integrating with existing connection technology; such as macrocells, cell towers to achieve integration, there are different methods. Some of them are Iu-b-based solutions, SIP/IMS-based solutions, and UMA-RAN Gateway based solutions.;Femtocells have many advantages; such as increased indoor coverage, better voice quality, higher performance data. Also, they have many disadvantages, too; such as more traffic load on internet lines. On the other hand, they have some challenges. Scientists work to sort out all of these problems nowadays. Those are interference, handoff, security, accessibility problems and so on.;In this study, femtocells are investigated in terms of attenuation and SINR. These two parameters are significant indicator for wireless media. Attenuation shows decreasing on signal strength and SINR shows how powerful a transmitter is. There are many different models to analyze these two parameters. ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and Log-distance are used in this study. They are compared to each other.;Also, calculations are done for traffic load on the macrocells and internet lines and cost for end user and operators. To do it, Baton Rouge MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area), LA is sampled. In this part, it is thought that femtocell technology was deployed to Baton Rouge MSA, the it is investigated possible cost to end user and operator, and traffic load on macrocells and internet lines.
