Abstract/Summary:
Performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wireless communication system is severely degraded by the presence of phase noise. Phase noise can reduce the effective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver, and consequently, limit the bit error rate (BER) and data rate of the wireless system.;In this work, a baseband compensation scheme is proposed to mitigate the common phase error (CPE) as well as intercarrier interference (ICI) caused by phase noise. The proposed algorithm estimates few spectral components of the current phase-noise realization in order to approximate the phase-noise waveform. This scheme also uses a decision-aided approach to improve the initial phase noise estimates. However, the number of such improvement steps is severely restricted to ensure implementation feasibility in terms of hardware resources and clock cycles required. It is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance in terms of bit error rate when compared to a receiver with only the common phase error suppression.
