Abstract/Summary:
The Transport Control Protocol (TCP) works well in a terrestrial communication environment, but modifications are necessary to provide good performance in the satellite communication environment. To cope with the inaptness of TCP/IP for deep space and satellite communication, the concept of Delay-Tolerant Network (DTN) is introduced. A DTN is a network of various network regions with different communication features. The DTN copes with the challenges of the deep space and satellite communication by delay isolation via transport layer termination between two networks. It uses store and forward to transfer bundles between nodes.;This thesis focuses on the effectiveness study of DTN in coping with the various delays in cislunar domain environment. Through this thesis, we provide a comprehensive performance evaluation of DTN protocol for a symmetrical cislunar channel with a round trip time delay of 3s to 10s in the steps of 1s. Furthermore, the performance was evaluated for varying BER of 0, 10-6, and 10-5 and file sizes of 10 kbytes, 20 kbytes, 30 kbytes, and 40 kbytes respectively. The file transfer time is dependent on both the file size and the BER of the channel. The initial average throughput is higher for the higher file sizes and smaller BERs.
