Abstract/Summary:
A pivotal element of the next generation of web is semantics. The motivation of this thesis is to find out which Semantic Web technologies are suitable for addressing the unique requirements of business applications.; This thesis addresses an approach that clearly defines and represents a complete Enterprise while taking into consideration aspects such as Organization Structure, Business Concepts and Processes, Manpower, Products etc. We propose to use ontology as a means for representing the information associated with an Enterprise, in a simple way. Besides describing an Enterprise the proposed ontology also incorporates the implementation of the rules, which are built using concepts defined in the ontology. This provides one more dimensionality of enhancement and validation, to the proposed idea. The goal of our research is to construct and make available a generic ontology that can be used to construct an ontology representing an Enterprise of any size and structure. The approach provides us with a standard method for representing business rules and business vocabulary.
