Abstract/Summary:
1xEV-DO Revision A system has been designed to provide a wide area wireless network to support packet data applications. It supports the quality of service for delay sensitive data along with delay tolerant data. This thesis explains the reverse link performance of a 1xEV-DO Revision A system with best effort and voice over Internet Protocol data. From simulations run using an 1xEV-DO Revision A simulator, the observations made are: (1) Best effort sector throughput strongly decreases with the increase in the number of best effort data users due to interference from other access terminals, (2) the optimal value for the Reverse Activity Bit threshold should be the highest value possible with more number of users keeping the system stable, and (3) the power step size values are chosen to be high enough to increase the system throughput while at the same time not fluctuating the power values drastically.
