Abstract/Summary:
The object of this research study is to design a Free Space Optical (FSO) Network connecting branches of First Caribbean International Bank Barbados (FCIB). Branches currently communicate via a Virtual Private Network where Internet & telephone services are provided by Cable & Wireless Barbados (C&W). This VPN links remotely located branches via T1 lines, in the event of a natural or manmade disaster both FCIB and C&W may find that their regular communications methods and services are seriously compromised. The lines on which the VPN operate can become damaged thus disrupting communications. Under the current design FCIB has to wait until C&W is operational to resume their business procedures. Using FSO technology a network design was formulated using a range of different transceivers available for enterprise solutions. The study is aimed at providing a mechanism to offer FCIB means to recover their communications methods in a post disaster period.
