Abstract/Summary:
Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) are groundbreaking and exciting new technologies. Then there are transformational inventions like Spatial Domain Multiplexing (SDM) waiting innovative adroit for pragmatic mass producible solutions. This thesis presents an effort to explore these fascinating technologies to find practical solutions for this novel optical multiplexing technique.;Principles of silicon photonics and optoelectronics are employed on a standard CMOS technology to create a reproducible and field deployable beam separation module (BSM) for SDM. Whereas an investigative approach is taken to present three different application specific implementations of beam combination module (BCM), including standard fiber optical connector/splicer based BCM; advanced lithographic waveguide based BCM with focus ion beam (FIB) patterning and ion implantation techniques and MOEMS based BCM using MOEMS processes and MOEMS CAD tools.
