| This paper presents an analysis of quantitative research on family structure and adolescent drug use among high school students in Guam. Using secondary data gathered from 773 high school students, this study examines adolescent drug use in social and cultural context to identify risk factors that influence adolescent drug use in Guam. By understanding the influences of family structure, race/ethnicity, gender, and the extent to which drugs are by adolescents this study may promote effective policies and programs of prevention and intervention.; The findings indicate there is a significant relationship between family structure and initiation of adolescent drug use. Also, gender was significant in supporting the claim that males on average initiate marijuana use at an earlier age than girls. Additional influences of adolescent drug use are recognized. |
