Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to inform and empower youth who are preparing to age out of foster care through the use of my narrative. Literature was reviewed about aging out of foster care and social work burnout. In addition, existing narratives were reviewed in an effort to determine the significance of narrative writings and their social relevance in academia. The narrative includes the author's conflicts and struggles as a child who was preparing to age out of foster care and how her life developed meaning as a result of the trials she overcame in spite of expected outcomes. The author hopes that the process of struggling, resolving her conflict and gaining insight will increase awareness and empowerment within the social work profession. In this personal narrative the authors personal experiences and perceptions were explored. The implications to social work practice were explored and discussed.
