The Strenths Persective Of Social Work Involves In The Problem Research Of Foster Care

In the context of reform and social change, the number of orphans and disabledchildren has increased quickly. The child welfare agencies could not afford so manyservices, so family foster care became popular in China. Family foster care saves theexpense of the welfare agencies, to provide children with the warmth and care of thefamily, and is conducive to the healthy growth of the orphans and disabled children. Ithas been widely praised. Social work has a professional way to help people, and thetheory and practice of social work can be provided for family foster care work.Traditional method of social work focus on the problem in the case of the main, and thusthe effect of help others is limited. In this case, Strengths Perspective of social workbecomes more and more popular.Through the survey, author found that staff use many social work methods to helpthe foster family. This article based on Strengths Perspective of social work, investigatedYuanping’s family foster care work and found the following issues: First, there is no lawin the field of family foster care. Second, Government is the single service provider.Third, foster parents do not have professional knowledge on foster care. Forth, theprofessionals are less in foster care work. The last, education of children in foster carehas not been given due attention. In Yuanping, the family foster care practice has beenapplied concepts and methods of social work, it has established a working relationshipwith other social work agencies. But the effect is not yet clear intervention. At the sametime, there are some wrongs with the social work method, such as labeled problem tagsto foster children, ignore their ability, and have not unearthed their recourses.This paper argues that Strengths Perspective of social work can explore morepotential of the foster children, and solve their problems. Family foster care has acomplete process, among that social work can do many things. Such as recruitment,assessment and training in the stage of looking for foster families, supervision andre-evaluation in the commission stage of foster care, and use the three kinds of socialwork method in the formal foster stage. Strengths Perspective assumes that everyone haspotential to learn, to grow and to change. Everyone has the capacity and resources. OnStrengths Perspective, the social wok process can be divided into five steps involved in family foster care, they are: Contacts and build relationships, assess strengths and desire,establish objectives and plans, actions and access to resources, consolidate theadvantages and resolve. This paper gives a real case to indicate the effect of StrengthsPerspective of social work.Finally, this paper gives five-point suggestions to promote the development offamily foster care policy. They are: establish and perfect the legal system of foster care,promote the diversification of services provided, establish a social work team for thefamily foster care work, increase the training efforts to the foster parent and improve thelevel of education of the foster children.
