Abstract/Summary:
This work explores how arts organizations have used technology to grow and develop audience engagement and participation in their organizations and the processes behind successful engagement activities. It examines two theories of target markets that arts organizations should be mindful of in engagement planning and looks at staff members' attitudes and perceptions on the use of incorporating engagement activities in the organizations. It then takes a closer look at three community-based theatres in the Southwest corner of Missouri with case studies that explain what the organizations aim to accomplish, what their current programming consists of, how they currently use technology, and their thoughts on engaging members of their communities.;Through this thesis, I found that there is no specific tactic to use technology successfully to engage your community. It is important for an organization to examine their current patrons and the community that they are a part of. They should then determine what their goal is with technology engagement and establish activities that align with it and the organization's mission and capabilities. To increase the success with technology engagement, organizations must maintain activities, monitor results of implementation, and adapt as needed.
