Abstract/Summary:
The present study examined the relationships between decision-making styles and two aspects of personality, hardiness and spontaneity. The participants were 83 psychology students at Roosevelt University and professionals working in the Chicago vicinity who volunteered to take part in the investigation. They were administered three inventories, the Decision Style Inventory (DSI), the Personal Views Survey III (PVS-III-R), and the Spontaneity Assessment Inventory (SAI). Results revealed that people who are characterized by the Directive decision making style also showed low level of hardiness. Furthermore, it was found that hardiness and spontaneity are positively correlated. However, no relationship was found between the other three decision making styles: Analytical, Conceptual, and Behavioral, and between hardiness and spontaneity. Further suggestions and practical implications are discussed.
