| This project-based thesis explores the topic of humans in relationship with nature in children's picture book literature for the purposes of establishing best practices for writing environmental picture book texts. It begins by reviewing current research about why children need a relationship with nature and how picture books can offer an important vicarious experience with nature. Then with ecocriticism as the methodology, I analyze picture books identifying techniques and best practices for this type of literature. Finally, I have written three texts using the knowledge acquired throughout this thesis. This thesis will be beneficial to all adults, especially adults who use or purchase picture books for children. |
