Abstract/Summary:
Background. Pharmacists are optimally positioned to provide information on herbal medicines to consumers.;Results. Students at British Columbia and Alberta had the highest mean scores on the test of herbal knowledge, followed by Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario. Herbal knowledge test score was positively associated with having previously taken an herbal medicine class, p<0.001. However, pharmacy practicum, post-secondary education, age, and gender were not associated with herbal knowledge test score.;Conclusion. The results suggest that a mandatory herbal instruction is an effective way to impart herbal medicine knowledge to future pharmacists.;Methods. Herbal medicine tests assessing students' knowledge were distributed to all fourth year pharmacy students at five pharmacy schools in Canada.
