This project was performed to determine the importance of using legal nurse consultants in law firms to assist with particular cases. Legal nurse consulting is an up-and-coming sub-profession and the benefits of the services provided by legal nurse consultants are starting to be recognized within the legal field. LNCs were found to be cost-effective and knowledgeable.; A tool was developed according to Benner's novice to expert theory and the responses to a questionnaire received from two volunteer LNCs. The tool was established to determine how suitable an LNC was for a particular case. The tool was broad, but was useful when searching for an experienced LNC and the cases they were competent in carrying out. The tool focused on the experience of the individual at both the nursing and LNC levels. The tool provided the author with a basis to determine what cases the LNCs was apt to accomplish.
