Abstract/Summary:
This study used a qualitative action research approach to investigate the question, "What do community representatives of Jagraon, Pakistan, perceive that they need from a sister hospital in Powell River, British Columbia, to support them in developing their own health care facility so that it meets the needs of their community?" Data were gathered through interviews, focus groups, and oral histories involving 31 participants, 28 male and 3 female, from teenaged to approximately age 70. Trust, collaboration, and stewardship were among the themes explored. Recommendations include sharing of equipment and public health resources, supporting Jagraon leaders in recruitment of human resources, and assisting with ongoing funding needs. The sister hospital relationship should be cultivated and its benefits shared widely.
