Abstract/Summary:
This study asks what factors enhance nurses' use of health information systems to support clinical decision-making. Health care planning is largely dependant on electronic-based health information to provide better patient care. Understanding factors that increase the use of information systems will give focus to areas of support for nurses in their adoption of electronic-based health information. This action research study initiates a dialogue with Fraser Health nurses by means of a survey followed by two focus groups. Quantitative and qualitative data is collected and analyzed using methods such as content analysis and differential statistics. Recommendations address the concerns and needs identified by the nursing participants to support this significant change in clinical practice.
