Abstract/Summary:
Safety is a serious issue in the world of engineering. All engineers desire to design and build the safest structures possible that accomplish a specific task. Sometimes though, unforeseen situations arise that threaten safety by modifying the loading environment that a part was designed for. The purpose of this research is to develop methods using quadratic yield and failure criterion that attempt to account for these issues when determining the safety of a component.
