Abstract/Summary:
Multiple display technologies surround people on a daily basis. In particular, LCDs are becoming more and more popular due to decreasing price and improving quality. The backlight is an important part of every LCD unit. Today, there is a tendency to move away from conventional backlights, replacing them with LED backlights due to their advantages over other light sources. An ability to dim a display over a wide range is critical for many applications. This work shows three Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming control methods. All three methods are built in hardware and tested. The results are compared and analyzed. Advantages and drawbacks of each method are revealed.
