Abstract/Summary:
Over the past few years, a number of disasters have forced many public schools around the United States to place emergency preparedness high on their list of educational priorities. A well-organized and executed plan emphasizes how to protect the lives of our school children.;Being prepared demands effective response when a crisis occurs. It requires organizing resources needed to respond efficiently and immediately. FEMA and OSHA provide resources to help schools and emergency responders develop and focus on all phases of emergency response.;Many public schools are not prepared for a disaster. However, due to recent campus violence and concerns for student safety, several states are now requiring specific disaster training and preparedness activities in their school systems.;Government agencies are looking at digital TV channels that would disseminate emergency information and provide training information. According to social marketing, attention is provided to target audiences based on their information needs.
