Abstract/Summary:
Particulate flow has various applications in pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Because of inconveniency in experimental research, numerical simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamics becomes an important tool. However, to simulate such complex multiple particle system, accurate particle models are needed. In order to study, verify and improve drag models, high accuracy Direct Numerical Simulation of small systems of particulate flow is conducted. However, one main issue is the simulation of solid boundaries. Currently one of the most efficient methods to simulate complex moving solid boundaries is the Immersed Boundary (IB) method. In this work, various IB methods are reviewed, with one important class being thoroughly studied and evaluated. At last, simulation results of system of up to several hundred particles are reported.
