Participation in cooperatives is an important way for farmers to overcome problems,such as decentralized production,poor circulation and market risks.it is also the main content of agricultural industrial upgrading and development.However,during the development of cooperatives in China,there is a widespread problem of farmers' reluctance and low participation rate.This problem not only restricts the expansion of the scale of cooperatives,but also affects the function of cooperatives.Human capital and social capital provide important ideas for increasing farmers' participation in cooperatives.Human capital influences farmers' cognition of cooperatives and thus their participation in cooperatives,while social capital influences farmers' access to information and other resources,impact on the willingness and degree of farmers' participation in cooperatives.Therefore,it is of great significance to introduce human capital and social capital into the study of farmers' participation in cooperatives.This paper is based on planned behavior theory,collective action theory,transaction costs theory,human capital theory and social capital theory,based on the survey data of 284 farmers in Dingxi,Gansu Province,this paper uses the binary Logit model and the ordered Probit model to determine whether and to what extent farmers participate in cooperatives,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of human capital and social capital on whether and to what extent farmers participate in cooperatives.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The proportion of farmers who participate in cooperatives is relatively low,and the number of farmers who participate in cooperatives accounts for 63% of the total number of farmers surveyed.And among the farmers who have participated in the cooperative,the participation level is generally low,the average participation level is less than 50%.(2)Human capital plays an important role in the participation of farmers in cooperatives.In the human capital measurement variables,the education level and the training of the head of the household have significant positive effects on the participation of the farmer and the farmer in the cooperative.(3)Social capital also has an important impact on farmers' participation in cooperatives.In the social capital measurement variables,the number of mobile phone contacts of farmers,the trust degree of farmers to the village committee and the positive degree of farmers' participation in village collective affairs have significant positive effects on whether farmers participate in cooperatives or not,the trust degree of farmers to the villagecommittee has a significant positive effect on the participation of farmers in cooperatives.(4)The planting area,the age of the head of household and the degree of part-time employment also have significant effects on the participation of farmers in cooperatives.Among them,the planting area of farmers has a significant positive impact on whether and the degree of farmers' participation in cooperatives,the degree of farmers' part-time employment has significant negative influence on whether and the degree of farmers' participation,and the age of farmers' heads has significant negative influence on the degree of farmers' participation.There is a complementary relationship between human capital and social capital on the issue of farmers' participation in cooperatives.According to the above research conclusion,and the actual situation of the research area,this paper puts forward the following policy recommendations.(1)In the aspect of human capital,we should strengthen the education and training of farmers and improve the overall quality of farmers,including paying attention to the propaganda and education of farmers and strengthening the training of farmers.(2)To enhance the social capital of farmers in various dimensions and give full play to the Intrinsic Incentive of social capital for farmers to participate in cooperatives,including strengthening the construction of multiple information sharing channels in rural areas,pay attention to the openness and transparency of the government's internal affairs and increase the holding of various collective activities,etc..(3)Improve the land circulation policy,expand the scale of production and operation of farmers.(4)We will strengthen support for farmers and promote their specialization in agricultural production,including increasing agricultural subsidies for farmers and providing them with loan funds,Means of production and other productive services.
