In the current development environment,small and medium sized enterprises have achieved rapid development,and face opportunities and challenges at the same time.Establishing effective performance management system to enhance enterprise management efficiency and competitiveness is an important method for small and medium enterprises to seize development opportunities and the key to sustainable development.At present,many small and medium enterprises in China are trying to implement performance management,but the overall effect is not ideal.How to carry out performance management effectively has been a difficult problem for small and medium enterprises.The article takes D company as the research object.Firstly,Based on the basic theoretical knowledge and methods of performance management,this paper analyzes and studies the common problems and reasons in the implementation of performance management in small and medium-sized enterprises.Secondly,the paper discusses the necessity of improving and optimizing the performance management system of small and medium-sized enterprises from two aspects of the company and employees,and gives the principles and characteristics that the scientific and effective performance management of small and medium-sized enterprises.Finally,according to the management characteristics of small and medium-sized enterprises,the balanced score method and key performance indicator method are used to improve and optimize the performance management system of D company,and the problems that should be paid attention to in the implementation process of D company's performance management are also emphasized.
