Technological Innovation Effect Of Chinese Enterprises Embedded In Global Value Chain

At the moment when the intra-product division and trade system based on the global value chain(GVC)is gradually formed and deepened,how local enterprises in developing countries rely on independent innovation to achieve value chain upgrading is a key issue in current academic research.Based on the micro-enterprise level data from the merger of China’s Industrial Enterprise Database and Customs Import and Export Database from 2000 to 2006,this paper studies the technological innovation effect of Chinese enterprises’ embedding in global value chain.This paper makes an empirical analysis of the causal effect of technological innovation of enterprise embedding behavior by using the PSM-DID method,and further tests the time continuity,heterogeneity and specific influence channels of embedding.Finally,we get the specific impact of Chinese enterprises’ embedding in global value chain on technological innovation,and put forward pertinent suggestions.The conclusion of this paper is as follows:(1)The decision-making of local enterprises’ embedding in global value chain has played a significant role in promoting technological innovation of enterprises,and this role is enhanced with the continuation of embedding time.(2)The embedding behavior of enterprises with different factor endowments shows the effect of improving the level of technological innovation.Because of the comparative advantage of labor cost,labor-intensive enterprises have a greater role in promoting technological innovation than capital-intensive enterprises and technology-intensive enterprises.For enterprises with different ownership systems,state-owned enterprises have not been able to obtain technology spillovers in the process of embedding global value chain because of excessive dependence on government resources and lack of innovation incentives,while private enterprises have clear property rights,stable organizational structure and operating environment,so they are more innovative,and foreign-funded enterprises are more likely to get technical support from multinational companies in developed countries,so they have achieved the improvement of technological innovation level.For enterprises in different regions,because of their better infrastructure,stronger absorptive capacity and greater openness,enterprises in the eastern region have a significant role in promoting their technological innovation by embedding the global value chain.However,under the relatively backward economic conditions,supporting facilities and absorptive capacity,the technological innovation effect of embedding the global value chain is not significant in the central and Western regions.(3)As a channel of influencing technological innovation in the process of Embedding Global Value chain,product export has no significant effect.The reason may be that export enterprises are more vulnerable to the "value chain capture" effect.Meanwhile,the three channels of intermediate goods import,foreign capital entry and market competition show obvious promoting effect of technological innovation,which is consistent with the analysis of theoretical mechanism.On the basis of the above research,this paper puts forward concrete and operable policy suggestions from the two aspects of enterprise and government,which will help the local enterprises to develop their independent innovation ability,enhance their international competitiveness and upgrade their value chain.
