A Research On Geoeconomic Cooperation Of Bcim Economic Corridor

In 1999,In 1999,Chinese and Indian scholars put forward the idea of BCIM economic cooperation,which was highly valued by governments and positively responded by the academic community.Thanks to the joint efforts of all parties,the regional economic cooperation in the BCIM corridor has made a lot of progress in the fields of trade,transportation,tourism and agriculture.Facts have proved that the construction of the economic corridor is not only conducive to promoting the economic development of the four countries themselves,but also has a strong driving effect on the economic development of South Asia,which is of great and far-reaching strategic significance.However,due to the influence of many factors,mainly geopolitical relations,the construction of the BCIM economic corridor lags behind on the whole,with huge potential for geo-economic cooperation.In this context,this paper conducts a systematic study on the geopolitical and economic cooperation of the BCIM economic corridor,so as to provide a scientific basis for effectively promoting the construction of the BCIM economic corridor.Based on the theories of geo-economic cooperation,this paper puts forward the idea of carrying out geo-economic cooperation in the future by deeply exploring the conditions,current situation and restrictive factors of the BCIM economic corridor.The comprehensive analysis draws the following conclusions :(1)the geopolitical and economic relations between BCIM are relatively close,and the overall situation is more competitive than complementary;(2)in terms of economic and trade cooperation,the overall economic and trade development level of BCIM is uneven,leading to the reduced dependence of all countries on trade and investment in the region,and the overall external attraction of the region and the market power within the region are relatively weak;(3)infrastructure construction in the region lags behind,which seriously restricts the development of local economy.China has absolute advantages in technology and capital,and infrastructure cooperation among all parties is highly complementary.(4)in terms of industrial cooperation,cooperation in energy and tourism has achieved certain results,and cooperation in science and technology and agriculture still needs to be strengthened.There are some problems in the cooperation,such as energy development concentration and unbalanced cooperation,lack of system guarantee and cooperation planning,insufficient tourism publicity and big difference in regional agricultural planting structure,etc.It is difficult to form overall competitive advantage at present.(5)the main obstacles to the geopolitical and economic cooperation between BCIM include: lack of political mutual trust,great influence from external powers,obvious cultural differences,weak economic foundation within the region,and low level of cooperation between the governments of BCIM;(6)BCIM region can use BOT mode,point-type cooperation mode,expansion of compensation trade,co-construction of industrial park cooperation mode and "4-x" cooperation mode to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as transportation,energy,agriculture,economy and trade and tourism;(7)adopt specific implementation paths for different problems,such as strengthening infrastructure construction,conducting industrial cooperation based on complementary advantages and expanding financing channels.This paper analyzes the current situation of BCIM’s economic cooperation from a geographical perspective,and then reveals the laws of BCIM’s geopolitical and economic relations.
