Research On The Upgrade Of The Yangtze River Economic Belt Manufacturing Industry And Its Influencing Factors

The Yangtze River Economic Belt involves nine provinces and two cities,traversing the central and western regions,radiating north and south,and is a principal axis in China’s economic development pattern.It is also a crucial starting point for narrowing regional gaps and promoting regional coordination.Supporting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is an important measure taken by the Party Central Committee and the State Council to actively adapt to grasp the new normal of economic development and promote the high-quality development of the economy.The manufacturing industry is the traditional advantageous industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Therefore,how to tightly integrate the actual situation of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Focusing on the overall strategic layout of “Made in China” in 2025,finding the best breakthrough in the upgrading of the Yangtze River Economic Belt manufacturing industry,promoting the transformation and improvement of the manufacturing industry,and promoting high-quality economic development have become the focus of current concerns.Based on the grasp of global trade,global value chain,manufacturing transformation,and upgrading,this study draws on the value-added decomposition model of Koopman et al.on the total trade statistics and decomposes the domestic value of 29 provinces and cities in China.Calculated national value chain participation(NPA),embedded national value chain position(NL),national value chain return(NY),national value chain control index(NC)and explicit comparison based on value-added Advantage(RCA).This article compares and analyzes the situation in which 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt are embedded in the national value chain.Regression analysis was conducted on the participation rate of NVC and the control index of NVC through 14 manufacturing integrated locations.According to the regression results,14 manufacturing industries are divided into four categories,and thus the direction of each manufacturing industry along the NVC upgrade is determined.By influencing the indicators of various factors,the factors affecting the participation of 14 manufacturing industries in the national value chain and the influence of NVC control are studied.Finally,on this basis,the policy measures for the upgrading of the Yangtze River Economic Belt manufacturing industry were put forward.This paper draws the following conclusions:(1)The provinces and municipalities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt are deeply involved in the division of the national value chain of manufacturing industry,and the degree of participation of most manufacturing industries in the national value chain is basically 50% and above,and it shows a gradual deepening trend of development;(2)The 11 provinces and municipalities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt are basically embedded in the national value chain of manufacturing industry from the lower reaches,but the western provinces and municipalities,especially the Yunnan and Guizhou provinces,are embedded in the national value chain of certain manufacturing industries(such as electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing)from the middle and upper reaches;(3)The control indexes of the national value chain of manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Zone are generally large,except for a few provinces and municipalities and a few industries,most provinces and municipalities has a trend of increasing gradually in the control index of manufacturing.(4)Among the 14 manufacturing industries,except for general-purpose and special-purpose equipment manufacturing,the other 13 manufacturing industries should be upgraded upstream along the national value chain.(5)The same influencing factors are different.The manufacturing industry has different or even the opposite effect.When the provinces and cities create the manufacturing industry of this province,they should combine the characteristics of the manufacturing sector and the underlying conditions of the provinces and cities to select the critical manufacturing industries.(6)The development foundation of the manufacturing industry in the 11 provinces and cities of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is very different.There are conditions for the industrial transfer,capacity transfer and the spatial layout of the coordinated development of the manufacturing industry in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
