Considering the rapidly growing economy and the rising awareness of personal health management,it is quite necessary to build a customized intelligent health management system. As the foundation of the system, health management knowledge database needs to be well constructed.Currently,to gathering massive data at a lower cost, crowdsourcing is used in the data input and audit processes. However, the problems we are encountered now triggered us to explore effective ways to increase the efficiency and engagement level.Gamification has shown its popularity both in academic areas and business practices. It is widely used now in domains such as education, healthcare, marketing etc.and provides a new way for increasing engagement. Thus,it possibly could be applied to the crowdsourcing process.By reviewing literature, the study indicated gamification’s definition, how does it work and how to construct a gamification system. In addition, this paper summarized the gamification elements used and results in various contexts in which gamification is implemented.By analyzing the current operations of the crowdsourcing process and applying systematic gamification methods,a gamification system which would be used in the crowdsourcing process of health management knowledge database construction is designed.A point-based achievement system is being used in the healthcare management platform to improve user engagement and the input data quality. Also, the study runs a laboratory experiment to examine the effect of gamification application in the crowdsourcing platform. The results shows that the gamification model the study built shows positive influence on improving the engagement and input data quality.
