Since the reform and opening up,China’s urbanization process has developed rapidly. The urbanization rate has increased from 17.92% in 1978 to 59.58% in 2018,with an average annual increase of 1.02 percentage points. However, with the rapid advancement of urbanization,we should also pay attention to the income gap, especially the income gap between urban and rural areas.Being in a higher position affects the stability of society and the sustained and healthy development of the economy.A socialist harmonious society is being built, and a well-off society will be built in 2020.The goal of the struggle has a relatively negative impact. Therefore, studying the impact of urbanization on China’s urban-rural income gap has important theoretical and practical significance for coordinating urban and rural development and narrowing the urban-rural income gap.On the basis of reviewing and summarizing the existing literature, this paper analyzes the impact of urbanization on urban-rural income gap by constructing a mathematical model of the impact of urbanization on urban-rural income gap,and briefly introduces the history of urbanization.China’s urban and rural income gap.The trajectory and time series data for the national level from 1978 to 2017 were selected.Through the construction of econometric model, the impact of urbanization on the income gap between urban and rural areas in China is studied. The results show that: 1)Whether it is based on the analysis of the theoretical model or the test based on the measurement model, the results show that with the continuous advancement of urbanization, the impact of urbanization on the income gap between urban and rural areas.China has shown an "inverted U shape" change. The increase in urbanization rate first expanded the income gap between urban and rural areas. When the urbanization rate reaches a certain turning point, the increase of urbanization rate will narrow the urban-rural income gap;2)Measurement results show that the “inverted U-shaped” inflection point of urbanization on the urban-rural income gap in China has emerged, which means that With the continuous advancement of urbanization, the income gap between urban and rural areas will show a downward trend. Finally, based on the theoretical analysis, the results of empirical tests and the experience of urban and rural development in some countries, this paper proposes policy recommendations on how to promote urbanization to narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas. The recommendations include: accelerating the process of urbanization construction;vigorously developing agricultural modernization, raising farmers’ income levels, promoting land system reform, promoting urbanization, raising farmers’ income levels, and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas in China.
