Regional economic differences is a global problem. In the process of economic development, countries all over the world have encountered the problem of unbalanced development,no matter in developed or developing countries, without exception. As the world’s largest developing country and the second largest economy,China’s economic growth problem is very serious, especially the regional economic differences. In China, there are not only economic differences among the east, middle and West regions, among regions and within a province, but also very significant economic differences between adjacent provinces, regions and cities. Some provincial border areas are even more different than the three major zones. Therefore, the study of regional economic disparities in provincial border areas is a focus of regional economic disparities. From the perspective of empirical analysis, this paper takes the Northeast Provincial Border-regions,which is relatively backward in economy,as an example, systematically studies the evolution pattern and influencing factors of regional economic differences, and puts forward strategic countermeasures for the coordinated development of regional economy in the Northeast Provincial Border-regions.Firstly,this paper summarizes and collates the relevant academic achievements of regional economic differences and border areas in China and abroad, and establishes the content and methods of this study.Secondly, combining with the particularity of the research area and content in this paper,re-examines and defines the concepts of provincial border-regions and regional economic differences, systematically summarizes the relevant theories of regional economic differences.Thirdly, the characteristics and evolution laws of economic differences in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions are analyzed.Using comprehensive indicators,16 indicators are selected to measure the economic development level of the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions.The comprehensive scores of the counties and cities in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions in 2000,2005,2010 and 2015 are calculated respectively. The comprehensive analysis shows that the trend of spatial polarization and agglomeration of counties with similar economic development level in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions coincides with the temporal evolution trend of economic differences.Polarization has become the main trend of spatial structure evolution in this region.Fourthly,we use ESDA-GIS to analyze the spatial and temporal patterns of economic differences in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions from 2000 to 2015.In terms of time, the economic differences in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions generally show a downward trend of fluctuation;in space,HH-type counties show a trend of agglomeration to the eastern region of Heiji border, while LL-type counties show a trend of agglomeration to the northwest of Liaoning Province and southeast of Inner Mongolia. The differences between the eastern and western provinces become the main characteristics of the economic differences in the Northeastern Provincial Border-regions.Finally,according to the results of empirical research, this paper summarizes five factors that affect the economic differences of the Northeast Provincial Border-regions,and puts forward corresponding measures from five aspects to promote the coordinated economic development of the Northeast Provincial Border-regions.
