Innovation Atmosphere And Corporate Innovation

Innovation is the main melody of times.Xi Jinping emphasized that innovation is the primary engine of development at the 19th CPC National Congress once again.As the subject of technology innovation and technology application,firm level technological catch-up plays a decisive role in the overall national development strategy.Therefore,how to improve the enthusiasm of enterprise innovation has becoming a hot topic for academic research.Previous studies have explored the factors that affect innovation,such as internal governance mechanism,marketization level and intellectual property protection et al,and made great achievements.But,current study about the relationship of innovation atmosphere and innovation is not very rich.Considering the background of "industry-university-research cooperation"in China,this paper studies the relationship between innovation atmosphere and enterprise innovation based on the innovation atmosphere brought by knowledge spillover from universities around enterprises.And further study whether the informal mechanism plays different roles under different intellectual property protection.Firstly,based on the open innovation theory,regional innovation theory,transaction cost theory and asymmetric information theory,this paper demonstrates the rationality of the characteristics of colleges around enterprises as agent variables of innovation atmosphere.And based on the resource dependence theory,regional innovation theory and Institutional theory,the paper constructs the analytical framework of the relationship between intellectual property protection,innovation atmosphere and corporate innovation.Secondly,this paper empirically test the impact of innovation atmosphere on the corporate innovation and also examines the heterogeneity of the impact of innovation atmosphere on enterprises' innovation under different cooperation and innovation subjects.Moreover,we introduced the external formal system(the level of intellectual property protection)to explore the impact of the intellectual property protection on the relationship between innovation atmosphere and enterprises innovation.The empirical results show that:Innovation atmosphere can promote enterprise innovation by enhancing innovation willingness and alleviating enterprise innovation resource constraints,the positive effect appears to be more apparent in the state-owned enterprises and large enterprises.In addition,Different types of universities have different effects on different types of innovation.Research universities have more promotive effects on invention patents,while teaching universities have more promotive effects on utility model patents and design patents.Besides,In the regional enterprises with a relatively poor intellectual property protection,the positive effect is more obvious,which indicates innovation atmosphere can make up for the lack of institutional environment to a certain extent.But it's worth noting that the substitution effect is only significant in state-owned enterprises and large enterprises.Finally,this paper suggests that we should improve the enterprises innovation in China from the aspects of establishing and perfecting the intellectual property protection system,developing higher education to promote innovation atmosphere,and strengthening the building of industrial clusters in the Industry-University-Research area and so on.This study confirms that geographical proximity still has an important impact on knowledge spillover from Colleges.The paper expands the research perspective of influencing factors of enterprise innovation,gives suggestions to improve regional innovation capability and enhance innovation capability of the whole society.
