Since the 20 th century, economics, political science, and sociology have paid close attention to the fact that institutional changes in the broad sense have a sustained and long-term impact on both economic development and social progress. However, for China,a large agricultural country, the challenge of the agricultural production system changes lies in the development of rural economy and the improvement of rural social living level. It also requires the improvement of agricultural productivity, the improvement of agricultural product sales market and the level of rural social welfare supply. The requirements of these three aspects are usually intertwined and closely connected. At present,China is experiencing the process of family farms in the agricultural production system. The solution to the issues relating to agriculture, rural areas, and rural people from the perspective of institutional changes is re-expressed as how to achieve effective changes in the agricultural production system and achieve a balanced state of institutional change. The change of family farm system process is obviously not a simple transformation of agricultural production system such as cooperatives and leading enterprises in the agricultural production system to the family farm system, which is an important phenomenon of rural social change and peasant differentiation in the current social transition period in China.Instead, they are nested in a gradual transition process. As an important link in the change of China's agricultural production system,it is very necessary to straighten out the relationship between the change agents in the process of family farm system change and the relationship between the promoters and the political context and the mode of change.Since Reform and Opening,China's social system has undergone a major change and development. The development of urbanization, industrialization and modernization has put forward new requirements for the modernization of rural social systems.Based on the research paradigm of the new institutionalism and the theoretical model of the gradual institutional change, this study answers three questions,(1)how does the change agents do during the process of institutional change,(2)how many types of coalitions in the process of suburban family farm system and how is the coalition politics,and(3)how the transition model of the family farm system is realized. From an economic and social point of view, the institutional change of suburban family farms is a gradual process involving changes in the institutional ecological context, changes in coalition politics of the change agents, and changes in rural society. For this reason, this study hopes to re-return the study of the practice process of the family farm system which is the new agricultural production system to the discussion of institutional change.Through the dynamic changes of the change agents, coalition politics and institutional ecological context in the process of institutional change, the clues of the study provide a new analytical perspective for the process and practice of agricultural production system changes.
