In 2018,China's economic aggregate exceeded the 90 trillion yuan for the first time,ranking second in the world.And the economic growth rate ranked first among the top five economies.However,compared with developed economies,the overall level of China's economic development is still relatively lower.And there are still gaps with developed countries in key industries.Based on the background,accelerating the improvement of the Chinese enterprises' independent innovation capability and promoting the technological catching-up of latecomer enterprises have become the key to China's economic development.At present,the implementation of China's innovation-driven development strategy has achieved considerable results.A number of outstanding latecomer enterprises such as Huawei,Midea and Goldwind Science&Technology have broken through technical barriers of leading enterprises in their respective fields and achieved technological catching-up.In the early stage of development,these enterprises achieved market standing through market orientation.After that,they made timely strategic adjustments based on changes in the external environment,and adjusted the enterprise strategy from market-oriented strategy to technology-oriented strategy.Then they advanced research and development leading technology to achieve technological catching-up for leading enterprises.In reality,many latecomer enterprises are caught in the dilemma of strategic adjustment failure in China,resulting in their lack of core technology research and development capabilities,and it is difficult to achieve technological catching-up with leading enterprises.Therefore,based on the typical cases of latecomer enterprises,this paper deeply analyzes the strategic turning process and key influencing factors of the latecomer enterprises,and provides a reference for the latecomer enterprise technology catching-up.Based on literature review,selects Goldwind Science&Technology and Midea as the typical cases of the latecomer enterprise strategic turning.Through the grounded analysis,this paper finds strategic orientation rhythm,strategic dominant logic and the key influencing factors during the latecomer enterprise strategic adjustment process.Based on this foundation,it analyzes the latecomer enterprise strategic adjustment process by additional cases.Finally,this paper uses the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method(fsQCA)to investigate the key factors configuration types in each stage of the strategic turning process and explorethe evolution law of key factors.The findings are as follows: Firstly,the strategic turning process of latecomer enterprises is similar to pendulum,and the strategic orientation rhythm evolves from “market orientation”,“orientation turning” to “technology orientation”.The strategic turning rhythm has a certain time sequence.The strategic dominant logic evolves from “market survival logic” to“self-development logic”.The static adaptation and dynamic co-evolution of strategic orientation rhythm and dominant logic are analyzed.Secondly,the major influencing factors of latecomer enterprise strategic turning process are entrepreneurial strategic leadership(entrepreneurial strategic thinking ability,entrepreneurial strategic executive ability),environmental uncertainty(environmental complexity,environmental dynamics)and resource reconfiguration(resource pioneering,resource coordinating).They have configuration characteristics.Single factor can not help latecomer enterprises to achieve strategic turning.There are two different types configuration of key factors in each stage of the strategic turning process.Thirdly,it finds the dynamic evolution characteristics of the key factors in the strategic turning process.While enriching relevant theoretical research,this paper also provides a theoretical model and practical reference for the strategic turning strategies of latecomer enterprises.It has certain practical guidance for accelerating the process of enterprise technology catching-up and improving the independent innovation capability of Chinese latecomer enterprises.
