The innovation drive of high-tech industries has become a key force in China’s economic transformation.Driven by government support, geographical location and market factors,China’s high-tech industry has developed rapidly, but the regional development has been quite different, forming a different agglomeration trend. As an important engine to promote regional technological innovation and accelerate economic transformation, the selection of high-tech industry agglomeration mode and location carrier will have a differential impact on innovation activities. This paper uses the 2005-2016 provincial high-tech industry panel data, using spatial econometric model and panel threshold regression model to empirically test the spatial impact of industrial agglomeration model on regional innovation efficiency and the possible threshold effect of regional agglomeration structure on regional innovation efficiency. The main conclusions are as follows:First,at the national level, the competitive effects and demonstration effects of specialized agglomeration of high-tech industries coexist.Specialized agglomeration has a significant inhibitory effect on the innovation efficiency of the region, but it has a significant positive spillover effect on the innovation activities in the surrounding areas, and compared with the geographical distance, under the weight of economic and social distance, this positive externality is more obviously;the increase in the level of diversified agglomeration will not only inhibit the improvement of innovation efficiency in the region, but will also have a negative effect on innovation activities from neighboring regions to a certain extent.Second, the industrial agglomeration model in the three major economic regions has obvious heterogeneity characteristics for regional innovation efficiency, mainly as follows: the suppression effect of professional agglomeration on innovation efficiency is weakened in the east, west and central regions; In terms of central and west regions, the special agglomeration in its neighboring areas has obvious positive spillover effects and reflux effects on the innovation performance of the region;for diverse agglomeration,it shows significant positive externalities in the eastern and central regions, among which the increase in the scale of diversification from the adjacent regions in the central and western region will also have a significant positive diffusion effect on innovation efficiency in the region.Third, the industrial agglomeration model has a significant positive marginal diminishing effect on the efficiency of innovation.A moderately-scale industrial agglomeration can fully exert the positive externalities of innovation efficiency..At the same time, there is a significant crowding out effect between different agglomeration modes. Finally, based on the above conclusions, the corresponding countermeasures are given.
