Over the years, export has become one of the core driving forces of national economic growth. However,in recent years,China's export trade has shown a slowing trend.Enterprise export is facing new pressures and challenges. With the realistic requirements of export upgrading, how to stabilize the export still has important practical significance in the current economic environment. There are already abundant literatures studied the factors affecting the export behavior of enterprises from the aspects of financing constraints, legal environment and product quality. The greatest innovation of this paper is that it has systematically studied the impact of enterprise management competence on export from the perspective of enterprise management competence.Specifically, based on the survey data of the World Bank on Chinese enterprises in 2012 and taking "the years of senior executives working in the industry" and "whether enterprises have introduced new management processes" as the measurement indicators of enterprise management competence, this paper empirically examined the impact of management competence on export propensity and its mechanism. The results show that: 1.The longer the senior managers have been working in the industry, the more export propensity the companies will have. This result is still robust when using "whether the enterprise introduces new management processes" as an alternative explanatory variable and instrumental variables to make the regression. At the same time, the longer the senior managers have been working in the industry, the more significant the positive impact on the export intensity of the enterprises.2.As far as the impact mechanism is concerned, managerial competence promotes the growth of export possibilities by positively affecting the labor productivity of enterprises;3.There are differences in the impact of managerial competence on enterprises of different regions, scales, technological levels and factor-intensive degrees. For enterprises of eastern, large and medium-sized,high-tech and capital-intensive industries, managerial competence promotes the export in a more prominent way.Based on the above research and the current situation of domestic enterprises' export, this paper puts forward the following suggestions on how to improve the export of Chinese enterprises from the two aspects of government and enterprises: 1.The government should push forward the supply-side reform and incorporate the improvement of enterprise management competence into the supply-side reform;formulate relevant policies to improve the quality of enterprise products and increase the export propensity and intensity of those labor-intensive,small and medium-sized enterprises.2.Enterprises should improve their labor productivity through various channels;reform their internal management mechanism to enhance their management capabilities;and enhance their own scientific and technological innovation capabilities to improve product quality and export competitiveness. The innovation and significance of this paper lie in: firstly,it explores the influence of enterprise's management competence on enterprise's export propensity, which supplements and enriches the research on the influencing factors of enterprise's export behavior;secondly,it innovatively realizes the measurement of enterprise's management competence by using "the working years of senior managers" and "whether or not enterprises introduce new management processes";thirdly, this paper systematically probes into the channel mechanism of managerial competence influencing enterprises' export behavior and its different influences on different types of enterprises, and provides pertinent policy suggestions for cultivating new export advantages of Chinese enterprises from the perspective of managerial competence.
