| Prosperity and openness are important indicators to measure the development of modern cities, however, there is no unified measurement for both of them in academic circles. The purpose of this paper is to explore the coupling degree of the penetration of Starbucks in China with the prosperity and openness of cities on the basis of the research on the location selection factors of foreign capital retailing,in order to measure the prosperity and opening of cities from a new and more objective perspective.Based on the introduction of the background and significance of this research, the article reviews the previous studies on index structure of urban prosperity and opening and the location selection of transnational retail enterprises. Then the article analyzes the mechanism from two aspects of the location factors of Starbucks in China and the feasibility of alternative variable. After that, the article analyzes the distribution status of Starbucks stores. The theory and empirical parts are divided into two chapters. This paper firstly pursues the law of store layout through mathematical research on the basis of theoretical support.Secondly, the article analyzes the correlation between the permeability of Starbucks and the urban prosperity and openness, then uses empirical research to prove whether Starbucks permeability can be a new measure of urban prosperity and openness. The results of this study show that: Starbucks’ strategy of horizontal expansion and vertical deep tillage in China’s inland area is characterized by unbalanced regional distribution. In addition to the general factors that enterprises will take into consideration,Starbucks will also make store layout from the perspective of foreign culture acceptance.Starbucks penetration is positively correlated with urban prosperity and openness index,so Starbucks penetration can be used as a new measure of urban prosperity and openness. |
