The Formation And Development Of The Hangzhou Silk Central Market In The Republic Of China (1912-1937)

Silk industry is an important economic industry in China and an important source of family income in the south region of Yangtze River.Hangzhou has always been called the "silk palace" with a long tradition of silk reeling and silk weaving.In the period of the republic of China,the scale of silkworm rearing in Hangzhou was not as large as that in Huzhou and Jiaxing,but still with its superior geographical location and convenient land and water transportation conditions,it served as the distributing center of raw silk and cocoon raw materials in various counties around Hangzhou and became the regional sub-center of economic interaction and exchange between these counties and Shanghai.In the process of interactive development of regional economy,Hangzhou silk market also drives the development of urban finance,transportation,education and other industries,further promoting the development of Hangzhou.This paper uses a large number of modern newspapers and archival data compilation,local chronicles,literature and history materials,and on the basis of previous research results and ideas,specifically analyzes the overall shape of Hangzhou silk market commercial trade and its impact on urban development between 1912 and 1937.This paper is divided into four parts:the first part mainly introduces the objective environment of the development of Hangzhou traditional silk industry.It mainly introduces the geographical environment,traffic conditions,historical silk production environment,cultural environment and gradually formed silk market of Hangzhou.The second part mainly introduces the formation and development of Hangzhou silk raw material market.From the production and marketing of cocoons and raw silk,this paper studies that Hangzhou acts as a raw material turnover center between itself and surrounding areas and Shanghai,and analyzes the characteristics of raw material market in Hangzhou.The third part mainly introduces the formation and development of Hangzhou silk commodity market.This paper analyzes the development of different types of silk production industry in Hangzhou,the sales of silk,the formed commodity market and its characteristics.The fourth part mainly introduces the establishment and influence of the silk center in Hangzhou during the republic of China.Through the investigation of the interaction of raw materials and capital between Hangzhou and its neighboring counties and cities and Shanghai,this paper demonstrates the establishment of the market position of Hangzhou silk center.In addition,in the process of the formation and development of the silk central market,Hangzhou has also gradually transforming into a modern city.
