The contribution of manufacturing industry to the national economy of each country is self-evident,so the level of productivity of a country can be directly reflected by the level of development of its manufacturing industry.China's manufacturing enterprises have developed rapidly since the reform and opening up,but from the perspective of the world as a whole,China's manufacturing industry is still in the third echelon, that is,the low-end manufacturing field. At present,China's social and economic downward pressure is increasing, and manufacturing industry is facing a more severe situation of transformation and upgrading.Accordingly, our government has put forward the "Made in China 2025" plan of action for the first ten years of building a strong manufacturing country.Under this background,it is more urgent to study the influencing factors of manufacturing enterprises performance in China.Based on the background characteristics of top management team and the perspective of R&D investment, this paper theoretically explains the mechanism of the influence of top management background and R&D investment on the performance of GEM manufacturing enterprises and the regulatory effect of R&D investment. It also selects 236 most representative GEM manufacturing enterprises as samples for empirical research,so as to put forward targeted and targeted proposals for listed companies in China policy recommendations.Firstly, this paper studies the development status of GEM manufacturing enterprises in China from the aspects of the average age of executives, the average education level of executives, the proportion of female executives, the intensity of R&D investment and the performance of manufacturing enterprises. The research finds that the average age of senior executives of GEM manufacturing enterprises in China is on the rise, but it has gradually stabilized in recent years. This shows that the manufacturing industry pays more attention to experience, qualifications and human resources, and also shows that the innovative development mechanism of young senior executives is not perfect at this stage. The demand for academic qualifications of manufacturing enterprises is getting higher and higher, which shows that high-quality talents can be better in the market.Identifying and seizing the opportunities well can better grasp the direction in the competitive and complex environment;the proportion of female executives has been at a low level, which shows that male executives have greater advantages over female executives in terms of pressure resistance and decision-making ability, but in recent years this proportion has increased significantly, indicating that more and more enterprises recognize that female executives play a role in the team.Important role;236 manufacturing enterprises annual total R&D investment is rising, but its average intensity is declining year by year, which shows that the growth rate of R&D investment in manufacturing industry in China has not kept up with the speed of enterprise's own development, and has fallen into a bottleneck in innovation and R&D;the analysis of enterprise performance also shows that when the R&D investment intensity falls,it will lead to manufacturing enterprises.Performance effectiveness is reduced.Overall,China's manufacturing industry is currently in the stage of transformation and upgrading, from top management appointment to R&D investment need to make appropriate adjustments and optimization. On the basis of theoretical research, this paper conducts a normative empirical study. The results show that young executives in manufacturing enterprises have better innovation and change ability, and strong ability to accept and learn new knowledge and new methods. The level of executive education has no significant impact on corporate performance, which may be due to the irrationality of the current education system and the fact that most executives do not strengthen their management learning after they are in a high position.Female executives can grasp customer needs more accurately, and female executives are better at adopting suggestions than male executives.Research shows that there is a positive relationship between the proportion of female executives and corporate performance. In addition, this paper takes R&D investment intensity as a moderating variable to conduct empirical research. The results show that R&D investment intensity has negative regulation in the relationship between the average age of senior managers, the proportion of female senior managers and corporate performance, and positive regulation in the relationship between the average education of senior managers and corporate performance. Therefore, this paper suggests that for manufacturing enterprises, the training of young executives and female executives should be emphasized when choosing senior management members. With the development of manufacturing industry and the increasing investment in R&D in China, the core factors of employing senior managers in enterprises should focus on high-quality talents, rather than on the gender and age requirements of senior managers. As for the individual executive members, along with the development of the enterprise, they should also pay attention to self-learning at any time to ensure that they can play a positive role in the development of the enterprise.
